The Educational Construction Fund selected The World-Wide Group to create a new High School of Art and Design and PS59 as a part of a 925,000 square foot mixed-use development on the corner of 2nd and 57th Street. In 2012, 2,100 students will move into two 21st century schools designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill.
The first phase of the development includes the new primary and high schools as well as the anchor retail tenant, Whole Foods Market. Construction started in April of 2010.
The second phase will include an additional 78,000 square feet of retail and a 59 story residential tower. Construction of the second phase will begin when the High School of Art and Design vacates their existing building on 2nd Avenue and moves into its new building on 56th Street.
